It doesn't matter if you can pronounce his name or not. Just say "Bruddah Iz" or "Iz" and everybody in Hawai'i knows who you mean. His passing in 1997 did nothing to diminish his immense popularity in Hawai'i and elsewhere. If anything, it just added to his legend, which is growing worldwide, not unlike Elvis or Bob Marley. Iz was a prolific songwriter and recording artist, and both a gentleman and a gentle man.

ISRAEL KAMAKAWIWO'OLE - KA'ANO'I
This 1990 CD was Bruddah Iz's first solo album. He would soon leave the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau, the band that made him a household name in Hawai'i in the mid 1970s, when he was still a teenager. It didn't take long to figure out that Iz was bigger on his own than he was as part of the Makaha Sons, as great as they were (and still are). Although Iz's sweet and strong tenor was perfect for traditional Hawaiian music, it is his playful side, such as "Margarita" and "Sea of Love" that shines through here.
