It doesn't matter if you can pronounce his name or not. Just say "Bruddah Iz" or "Iz" and everybody in Hawai'i knows who you mean. His passing in 1997 did nothing to diminish his immense popularity in Hawai'i and elsewhere. If anything, it just added to his legend, which is growing worldwide, not unlike Elvis or Bob Marley. Iz was a prolific songwriter and recording artist, and both a gentleman and a gentle man.

This 1993 CD is still one of the best-selling Hawaiian music recordings, due to the inclusion of the medley "Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World," which played in numerous movies and television shows including the season-ending episode of E.R., over the closing credits in the Anthony Hopkins/Brad Pitt hit film "Meet Joe Black" and the 30 second clip of it in a national e-Toys TV commercial. Bruddah Iz, who passed away in 1997, was more than just an entertainer, he is an icon for the ages, in the same pantheon as swimmer Duke Kahanamoku and fellow entertainer Gabby Pahinui.
